The Municipal Artists’ Studio Center in Domagkpark

With 99 artists’ studios, two guest studios for artist exchange programs and a spacious exhibition hall, Munich’s municipal Artists’ Studio Center in Domagkpark is one of the largest publicly-run art centers of its kind in Europe. The City of Munich offers space here for over 120 artists from different disciplines to work for up to five years. Inexpensive net rent rates of between Euros 4.20 and Euros 8.10 (per m²) are provided, to support artistic production by artists from and living in Munich.

he studios are currently rented out for the period from May 2014 to April 2019. A jury of experts assists Munich City Council with recommendations as to which artists should be granted a studio in the center. The Council then makes the final decision.
On every third Sunday of the month, the center offers guests a guided tour and the opportunity to speak with artists working there. Once a year, the building hosts an open day, when the public is invited to visit and view the center, as well as exhibitions.

The center’s exhibition space plays host to an ongoing schedule of events. Art exhibitions at the center mainly display works from the artists who are active in the center’s studios.

The City of Munich also supports municipal artist studio centers in Baumstrasse and in Dachauer Strasse. These buildings provide a total of 50 workshops for artists to work in.

In the Municipal Artists’ Studio Center in Domagkpark, a company run by the artists (DomagkAteliers gGmbH) manages the property on behalf of the City of Munich.
